History

St. Peter's as it is more commonly known, was established in Stockton, Missouri in 1969 as St. Peter, Apostle Mission Church.

At the time, Fr. Bill Krudwig was pastor at both St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in El Dorado Springs, Missouri and St. Catherine the Mission Church in Humansville, Missouri. The Stockton Dam was being built in the 1969's and while there were only two permanent Catholic residents there were several Catholic families involved in the construction of the dam. Fr. Krudwig looked into the future and could see a need for a church in Stockton. There would be vacationers and people retiring to the area. The two original Catholic residents in 1969 were Sue Allder and Connie Van Buskirk (both now deceased). Now we have seventy Catholic families.

The first church was purchased when the congregation of the Stockton Christian Church moved to their new home. The building had been vacant for some time so there was a lot of work to be done. Entire families worked together to renovate the church.

Fr. Krudwig served as pastor until 1983. Then Fr. Charles Morey, Fr. Walter Watson, Fr. John Harth, Fr. Vincent Bertrand, Fr. Michael Zoellner, O.S.B. and our present Pastor, Fr. Bill Krudwig, again.

Our church family grew - we needed more room. The Assembly of God Church building was vacant. With the sale of our church building, help from the Diocese and generous donations, we were able to purchase this larger building. Again, a lot of work was done to meet our needs. We now have classrooms for our Parish School of Religion Classes. A beautiful new kitchen was donated by one or our summer visitors. The kitchen, along with our newly carpeted basement, gives us room to hold our special dinners. Since 1989, we have installed new pews, new chandeliers and ceiling fans and our parking area has been black-topped.

We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesdays besides our regular 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Also, during the summer months, we celebrate the Eucharist on Saturday evenings to accommodate our many visitors.
